Burn Calories and Lose Weight While Jumping Rope

Sometimes in our attempt to burn calories and lose weight we look for new found ways rather than taking a look at proven types of exercises. One such proven type of exercise for burning calories and losing weight is the good ole jump rope.

Rope jumping is a fantastic cardio workout that’s easy to do just about anywhere. You can do it at home, in the gym, in a hotel or in front of a television.

The best part is that it is extremely effective at burning calories and burning fat which ultimately helps you lose weight. Jumping ropes burns calories at a rate of about 750 calories per hour. That is better than most cardio exercises and it doesn’t cost you much in the way of equipment. I live in the Chicago area and running outside is pretty much out of the equation this time of year. So jumping rope is a fantastic alternative that is a great calorie burner.

If you are going to jump rope there are a few things you need to know. Find a jump rope that is comfortable for you. Some people like plastic, others nylon and others leather. I like my leather jump rope except for the fact that is seems to twist up a little too much for my liking. Some like jump ropes that are weighted. Often the handles will be weighted but you can buy jump ropes where the rope itself is weighted. If you use this kind of jump rope then you can expect to burn more calories than the 750 per hour that I listed earlier. If you go this route, I would use the Original Heavy Ropes. Using a weighted jump rope is a great cardiovascular workout.

Below you can find a few jump ropes to get you started in the right direction.
