Tricks to save battery on the Processor "8-Core"

How many pieces of the ideal number of core processors for mobile devices? One, two, four, or eight? Last number that is chosen Samsung for its latest mobile processor series, Exynos 5 Octa.

It was announced Samsung at CES stage, January 9, 2013, as if not to be outdone the other two manufacturers of processors, Nvidia and Qualcomm, which also introduced their mainstay.

Tricks to save battery on the Processor "8-Core"While it has a number of core two times more than the previous generation processor, Exynos 5 Octa promised power saving and battery would not waste a high-end smartphone or tablet use.

Because, of the eight core Exynos owned Octa 5, only four that have high performance. The four core Cortex-A15-based architecture, just like yours Exynos processor Dual 5 is used in tablet Nexus 10. The four remaining core using Cortex-A7 base architecture that is optimized for power efficiency, not performance.

This configuration is the result of applying the concept of "big.LITTLE" from ARM. The eight core Exynos 5 Octa will share the workload dynamically according to the amount of system load. For example, browsing or other mild case handled by the core A7, A15 cores will temporarily take over while running a game or application "heavy" other.

Exynos 5 Octa will be one of the first processor that implements the concept big.LITTLE that, if not actually the first time.

The concept is slightly different from the approach taken in the processor Nvidia Tegra 3 and Tegra 4, where producers core chip it imparts an additional (companion core) can only be used when the four main core is turned off.

Exynos 5 Octa will be made with 28nm fabrication proeses promising more efficient power usage than the 32nm process used to make the Exynos Dual 5.

Problem couples graphics processors (GPU) used in SoC, Samsung does not provide specific information except the claim that its performance will be two times faster than previous generation processors.

If the processor "older generation" referred to include Samsung Exynos 4, then 5 Octa Exynos will probably be put on the Mali-T604 GPU as used by Exynos Dual 5.
